If you know me, you know that I am a perfectionist. You may also know that, more often that not, I get hung up on my perfectionism. Case in point, the date of my first posting on this blog. It was written over six months ago. That’s right, I started this blog last year, when we first started out on our big adventure. Being the perfectionist I am, however, I didn’t get very far. I thought everything had to be just right before I launched my site. And, I was afraid. Afraid no one would like what I had to say, or care. Afraid to put myself out there. Afraid I would do this blog stuff all wrong. Afraid, afraid, afraid.
And, now that we’ve returned from our big adventure, I’ve been afraid it was too late.
Thankfully, I’ve found a few encouraging voices out there in blog land that have inspired me to get this thing done. Today, quite randomly, I was inspired by my son’s Charlotte Mason spelling lesson. The following is from The Life of Jesus Christ for the Young by Richard Newton:
In the cathedral at Lincoln, England, there is a window of stained glass which was made by an apprentice out of little pieces of glass that had been thrown aside by his master as useless. It is said to be the most beautiful window in the cathedral. And if, like this apprentice, we carefully gather up and improve the little bits of time, of knowledge, and of opportunities that we have, we may do work for God more beautiful than that cathedral window.
So, here I am, gathering up my little bits and piecing them together. It’s not a masterpiece yet, but it’s progress.
